Playing Field: GTM + UA + Onsite Ads

Look for inclusion of Google Tag Manager (gtm.js), and from there, inclusion of Universal Analytics (analytics.js).

You should see a "collect" call to send a "page view" to Universal Analytics.

When clicking the ad, expect another "collect" which sends an event of category "ad", with a label containing the actual ad dimension and the landing page URL, and a value representing the position of the ad. Note that in this example we rely on jQuery to retrieve the ad position by referencing the exact classname that holds this info. This is fine since we use the Bootstrap framewok & slider and we know jQuery is loaded - the same concept applies to other scenarios with/without jQuery, with/without a slider. Also, as an example, we are adding the ad dimension to the label.
